3 inspirational books to be at the forefront of BIM
The publishing house Eyrolles proposes three new inspirational titles entirely devoted for architects that want to be at the forefront of BIM. What revolutionizes his practice?
At the BIM point (À la pointe du BIM)
The adoption of BIM by the various professionals with whom the vast field of architecture and construction is populated is only just beginning. The BIM is very differently integrated there according to that it is about the architects, the engineers, the builders and the construction companies as well as the other professions of the BTP, but it is already a ground of research and an object of education. In this regard, we will discover what are the latest advances in BIM in engineering schools, universities, and companies concerned about the results of the research.
It will include the architect who confronts his sketch BIM, the engineer who seeks what system design methodology to adopt, the wealth manager anxious to apply the BIM to the maintenance and operation of buildings, the urban planner who, in a BIM approach, wants to create a digital model of a street for its finite element thermal study, software vendors who propose methods and tools to make BIM accessible to building companies or computer scientists who create algorithms for modeling urban extensions and, of course, all BIM users who want to combine interoperability and responsiveness.
On the occasion of the fourth edition of the Digital Modeling and BIM Education Days (EDUBIM), a program committee representative of academic and professional research in France on BIM made a choice in the contributions of researchers to compose the present work, coordinated by Nader Boutros and Régine Teulier. The À la pointe du BIM is available in our Resources library
Managers of BIM (Les Managers du BIM)
From the call for tenders to project management, via the digital model and the BIM protocol, professionals – in the forefront of which are the BIM managers- face technical as well as organizational obstacles. They are then led to invent workarounds, often time-consuming. Consequence: the promises of the BIM are not at the rendezvous.
What future does the BIM approach have for us as long as we do not come across project logic and profit logic while respecting the common good? Bimbled on technological changes, can BIM managers “re-enchant” BIM? Given current practices often characterized by improvisation and resourcefulness, the authors answer the question: how to overcome the “DIY” BIM?
Respectively consultant and BIM manager, Serge K. Levan and Pervenche Audiffret remind us that to do different things, we must do things differently. That to do things differently, we must think differently. And that to think differently, we must become different. The Les Managers du BIM book is available in our Resources library.
Far from the dominant interpretations, they expose here a new vision of the BIM project device:
- How to think and practice BIM differently to overcome this perilous DIY (1st part)?
- What are the profiles of the managers responsible for building such a project device (part 2)?
- What skills do you need to acquire for BIM managers to act differently (Part 3)?
Revit for Architects (Revit pour les architectes)
Published by Autodesk, Revit is the leading architecture software that integrates the concepts of Building Information Modeling (BIM), which capitalize all life cycle data of a building. Dedicated in particular to architects and designers of buildings, this richly illustrated book explains how to apprehend and exploit this software during the different phases of a project: feasibility, sketch, APS, APD, building permit, marketing plan … Since From field modeling to site monitoring, the reader will discover a complete methodology, nourished by the great experience of the authors, to develop his project by guaranteeing the validation of each mission.
In contrast to a typical software manual, this book with a strong business approach is articulated around the stages of a project, so that the architect learns to take advantage of Revit at every stage of his work. Applicable to any version of Revit, these good practices are implemented on a project of an office building, which we follow from chapter to chapter. Completely redesigned with the latest version of the software, the second edition of this book included new content on the collaborative aspects of Revit and georeferencing. It is complemented by a web extension containing different sample files, scripts and documentary resources. The Revit pour les architectes is available in our Resources library.
