Advance Steel, the solution for detailed metal structures

There are not many programs on the market and we are going to focus on two: Tekla Structures and Autodesk Advance Steel .
In recent years, Tekla has been the dominant software in the structural market in Spain. Now, with Autodesk’s acquisition of Advance Steel, things are changing.
Advance Steel was a German product called HyperSteel that was acquired by Graitec, it works under AutoCAD and since 2012 has undergone significant improvements so that it currently performs the same tasks as Tekla and in some cases offers greater advantages that I will list below.
We can highlight as very important the appearance of the new extension that allows Revit users to export, import and synchronize the BIM data of their models with Advance Steel .
Since its acquisition by Autodesk, Advance Steel has opened its API so users can create new routines to solve certain tasks. This is essential for many professionals and, in many cases, represents a substantial time saving. Asidek contributes its experience and expertise in this field, allowing scripts to be tailored to the client’s needs.
Regarding learning Tekla and Advance Steel, it’s not as easy as many forums or publications claim; everything takes time. It’s true that Advance Steel has several advantages when running on the AutoCAD platform. This makes most drafters very familiar with the environment and their learning curve is faster. Advance Steel, like Tekla, generates all project documents: drawings, lists, and CNC files for machining machines. It offers users a large library of structural elements and design functions, such as:
- Generic components of all types: trusses, variable section beams, porticos, bracing, etc.
- Profiles corresponding to the various standards of the various countries.
- Accessories for the development of railings, stairs, including joints, etc.)
- Complex folded or profiled plates
- Possibility of representing recesses and notches for various types of welding, all types of screws with their corresponding qualities, etc.
Another key aspect is technical support. Asidek (CT Group) recently reached an agreement, making it the only Autodesk distributor to market Advance Steel. Asidek employs technicians in software implementation, training, participation in client projects, consulting, and configuration of Advance Steel solutions.
Finally, I would like to point out another advantage of Advance Steel: it is much lower than the cost of purchasing Tekla, and the annual license maintenance cost is substantially cheaper.
