BIM in Forest City, the four Green and Smart Islands of Malaysia
The implementation of the BIM in the project was the solution to be able to digitize all the construction processes and those related to the prototype of the city and at the same time, it was the tool that allowed the creation of active information models for both infrastructure and residential and commercial buildings. This allows them to store and manage all types of information about the city and the buildings during their life cycle.
BIM Academy was the partner company in charge of the digital part of the project and in particular of developing a test infrastructure. This infrastructure, considered as the central point of the project, is the Landmark building established as the first phase of construction of the company to later replicate its approach in the rest. BIM Academy has been in charge of developing its strategy and creating an Asset Information model composed of a multidisciplinary geometric archetype coordinated in 3D of the building’s structure and services that are combined with non-graphic data on maintainable assets of the structure and systems.
As the company itself states, “We work closely with the project management, modeling and contractor teams to develop a strategy for developing the geometric models and the classification of the asset data and the means to combine it into a holistic digital information model for improved building and infrastructure management.
On the other hand, the project has implemented the Industrialized Construction System to complete an industrial plant. This system, also known as IBS, is a new production model where all the construction pieces are made in a modernized factory and then delivered, unified and the construction infrastructure is formed in the right place.
This method standardizes the design process and also digitizes and automates the construction and production processes of the pieces. A more efficient and secure method of taking advantage of services. In addition, it is characterized by a greater awareness of the environment and incentives for job creation and economic development.
Greening Smart City and Multi-Layered Mobility
The green character and the forest image that Forest City embodies is undoubtedly its most distinctive and peculiar point. The facades of the buildings are interspersed with plants and most of the city’s surroundings are surrounded by green areas and parks. This ecosystem planning, which aims to solve existing urban problems, allows a more harmonious coexistence between city and nature.
On the other hand, the concept of multi-layered urban planning is used in which both vehicles and parking lots are hidden under the parks and the exterior area is only occupied by an extensive light rail transit system.
In terms of intelligent technology integration, the creation of an urban and resource management operating system that allows the aggregation of information from hundreds of sources makes it possible to perform advanced reporting on all city functions with this data. For example, one of the innovative systems is that each entity within the city (people, companies, services…) has a unique identification that provides connectivity between all entities through the Internet. The interconnectivity between entities will mean a high level of cross-border communication. And as a result, an intelligent lifestyle and work.
