Construmat will provide solutions for more innovative and responsible construction

350 exhibitors from 22 countries will participate, occupying 32,000m2 of space at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona.

Its Congress and activities focus on sustainability, technology, talent, and solving the housing shortage. From May 20 to 22, Construmat returns with more ideas, solutions, companies, and professionals to help redefine construction and rehabilitation through sustainability. With 350 exhibitors from 22 countries, Construmat will be a major showcase of technologies, systems, and construction materials, as well as a knowledge forum to advance toward a more innovative and responsible building model that can also address the housing deficit in Spain.

Organized by Fira de Barcelona, Construmat has become a key event for professionals in the construction industry value chain looking for the latest trends and innovations in sustainability, technology, and efficiency. More than 22,000 visitors are expected to attend.

The president of Construmat and APCE Spain, Xavier Vilajoana, emphasizes “the representativeness and the transversal and innovative character of the fair’s commercial offering,” and is confident that “the interaction among professionals, companies, experts, and government representatives at the fair will generate new ideas, solutions, learning, and collaborations that will contribute to transforming an industry essential for increasing the housing stock and building more efficient and sustainable buildings, spaces, and environments.”

Key sectors and companies So far, the most represented sectors at Construmat are walls, structures, facades, and roofs; wood, metal, and PVC carpentry; insulation, waterproofing, coatings, and paints; flooring and coverings; industrialized construction; and machinery, tools, and equipment. Together, these sectors account for 65% of the total exhibitors.

Other areas of the exhibition include air conditioning and ventilation; solar protection; professional services; lighting; urban planning, landscaping, and outdoor spaces; furniture and interior design; glass; BIM and IT for design and construction; bathrooms; kitchens; water management; energy management and capture, as well as associations and organizations.

Some of the most influential companies in the sector that have already confirmed their participation include Alsina, Technal, K-line, Urbidermis, Jung, Greco Gres, Exlabesa, Deceuninck, Grupo Valverde, Cosentino, Stil Condal, Indalsu, Alufactory, Fischer, PMP, Molins, Saltoki Offsite, Lahyer, Evowall, Tq Tecnol, Renolit, Dakota, Steico, KLH, and A. Solanes, among others.

Furthermore, 36% of the commercial exhibition will be international, reflecting the interest that the Spanish market and its surrounding areas in southern Europe and the Mediterranean attract. Companies and pavilions from countries such as France, Germany, Portugal, China, Turkey, Poland, Belgium, Austria, Morocco, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Egypt, Andorra, and Lithuania, among others, will attend.

International entities are also expected to participate, organizing their own events during Construmat. Notable events include the session by the Union of Mediterranean Architects (Umar) on “Natural Disasters in the Mediterranean Area. Architects Serving Society” and the Build Europe assembly and event, the association representing residential developers and builders from 18 EU countries, focusing on affordable housing.

Start-ups and investment forum Within the exhibition area, there will be a space with around thirty start-ups selected for their development of technological solutions to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency in construction (Contech) and reinvent services in the real estate sector (PropTech). This will be accompanied by a zone for talks, pitching sessions, and networking to present projects to potential investors, buyers, and partners. Construmat will also present an award for the best emerging company of this edition.

Social Housing, AI, and Healthy Biohabitation Beyond the commercial exhibition, Construmat serves as a major forum for dialogue, sector knowledge, training, innovation, and networking through multiple activities. Among them is the Sustainable Building Congress, where cutting-edge sustainable construction projects will be showcased, linked to the production of social and affordable housing, the creation of healthy biohabitable spaces, and the use of artificial intelligence in construction processes.

Another focal point for debate will be the new Construmat Experience space, which will host project presentations, masterclasses, and roundtable discussions led by industry entities. Topics will include AI-driven design, improving building resilience to climate emergencies, attracting young talent and women to the sector, energy savings, and solutions for rebuilding after the DANA in Valencia. The Engineering Summit by ACI will also take place, addressing key topics like decarbonization, AI control systems, and complex construction projects.

Training workshops, showroom, and materials Practical demonstrations and training will take center stage at the fair. The Workshop Area will host interactive sessions designed for learning and professional development. Topics will include solar certification, sustainable decorative painting techniques, industrialized masonry, air-tightness in rehabilitation, and other innovative solutions presented at the event.

The public will also enjoy La Plaza, a 200m² showroom of ephemeral, functional, and sustainable architecture. Designed by young talents, it will integrate energy efficiency, healthy materials, and aesthetics under the concept of “Eco Construction.”

Similarly, another interesting space will be the Construmat Materials Library, showcasing innovative composites and circular construction materials used in prototypes to assess their application potential.

Promoting talent This year, Construmat is launching an initiative to present the construction sector as an attractive career option for young people and other professionals. In collaboration with Barcelona Activa, on May 22, a day will be dedicated to showcasing the types of qualified professionals the industry demands, offering guidance, and creating professional opportunities through meetings between candidates and recruiters.

Finally, the Construmat 2025 Awards will be presented in collaboration with the Mies Van der Rohe Foundation. These awards recognize excellence and sustainability in architectural projects and will this year distinguish responsible and pioneering constructions in healthy architecture.
