Construction on Expo 2020 country Pavilions to begin in April

Construction work on some of the country pavilions for Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to begin in April of this year, according to a report from state news agency WAM. Expo 2020 runs from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021 and is expected to attract 25-million visitors.

Construction work on Al Wasl Square will continue alongside the Expo’s infrastructure according to Najeeb Al Ali, executive director of the Expo 2020 Dubai Office.

Last year, Dubai announced its plans for the site following the conclusion of the Expo. As per current plans, the site will be transformed into a sustainable, business-friendly environment, and 80% of the Expo’s internal infrastructure will remain unchanged and be used to host projects and initiatives including a free zone, commercial centers and a residential complex.

The Expo 2020 Dubai Office notes that the remaining 20% of infrastructure (including exhibiting country pavilions) will be dismantled and returned to their points of origin, as per an agreement that has already been signed. The goal of this initiative is to help promote sustainability.

Al Ali added that Expo 2020 Dubai aims to support the UAE’s energy consumption plans, with the goal of ensuring that 50% of the country’s total energy consumption is made up of renewable energy.
