Slab Joints Modeling

SAP2000 offers the ability to model discontinuities in either bar or area elements.
This case study deals with the modeling of a structural joint in a slab , which is often necessary for a correct analysis of the problem.
The basic principle for understanding the underlying process is that each node, whether belonging to a bar, area, or solid element, has a compatibility attribute (Merge Number). If two or more nodes coexist in the same space, within the limits defined in the Auto Merge Tolerance property , and have the same Merge Number , these nodes are automatically merged into one after performing design or editing operations.
This automatic operation can be countered by assigning different Merge Numbers to the nodes to be separated.
