Country: Finland
"InfraBIM Open 2018 it's been a success", states happily Petteri Palviainen, one of the Founders of the event. InfraBIM Open, which was hold in Tampere (Finland) the 6th and 7th of February, has introduced the latest achievements in information modeling, process re-engineering and practical open infraBIM project cases in transport infrastructure development.

More than 400 participants from 17 countries attended the event in order to know more about how the Nordic Countries are dealing with infraBIM. High speakers from Finland as well as from Sweden, Norway and the UK presented top-class cases in several sessions and had the chance to exchange their ideas with other participants during the networking breaks.

The event broght together the specialists in open infraBIM development and its use: interoperability and process development experts, software developers, design and management consulting professionals, construction and maintenance service providers, as well as supervisors and asset managers from owners side.

Visitors from all over the world got the opportunity to immerse themselves in an inspiring program: listen to top-tier speakers, participate in the workshops and mingle with like-minded professionals. Some of them were Aki Kopra, Development Manager at Kreate, one of the leading infrastructure builders in Finland; Adam Matthews, International Director for the UK Government’s BIM Task Group and Digital Built Britain Programme and Chair of the EU BIM Task Group; Pekka Petäjäniemi, Director for Major Infrastructure Projects Implementation Department in Finnish Transport Agency; Tarmo Savolainen, Chair of buildingSMART Nordic and much more.

Marek Suchocki from Autodesk, Erkki Makinen from Trimble Inc., Jakub Wachocki from Bentley Systems and Kevin Lea from ALLPLAN discuss about OpenBIM solutions.

The presentations gave a good cross-section of the BIM levels in different countries and, best of all, there were also many non-BIM people present who are very welcome to find out about the world of us BIM people and our way of thinking and doing things.

BIM is a topic that is also clearly of interest to professionals in the infrastructure sector and, as noted by buildingSMART Nordic chairman, Tarmo Savolainen, in his opening greetings, the world needs this seminar. That is the main reason why InfraBIM Open will be a reality again next year on 15-16 January 2019, also at Tampere Hall.

BIMCommunity and Zigurat Global Institute of Technology were part of InfraBIM Open 2018 giving support as Media Partner and Sponsor and it was a great experience to learn how things are done the 'nordic way'.
