BIM Delivers Efficiency from Conception to Construction for Mixed Use Project in USA

Project

Published by:
Datasheet
Company: BIMPACT Designs Pvt. Ltd.
Location: Washington, D.C., United States
Year of the project: 2022
Published: 18/08/2022
Description
Comprising of 1 Building with 8 floors the mixed use project includes underground parking, ground floor retail space, office space and 5 floors of residential apartments. The work scope included site work and interior finishes. The building consists of a post-tensioned concrete slab with columns, stone as well as terra cotta exterior shell. The purpose is to preserve the facade. BIM implementation in the project facilitated spatial coordination amongst the building systems.

Software Used: Autodesk Revit MEP, AutoCAD Fabrication, Navisworks Manage for executing clash detection amongst building models

LOD: 400

Trades Covered: Mechanical, Plumbing

Project Specialty: Manufacturer fitting used in Revit for understanding technical data

Scope of Work

1. 3D BIM Model Creation of Sheet Metal, Mechanical Piping and Plumbing of Buildings
2. BIM Coordination as per the Clash Report provided by the client
3. Shop Drawing Creation for Sheet Metal, Mechanical Piping and Plumbing
4. As- Built Update as per Mark-Up Drawings
5. Facility Management

Challenges & BIMPACT's Technique of Resolving Problems

Challenge: Input Inconsistency - Layout Missing on Cellar Level

Solution - Requested Client to provide missing layout

Challenge: Design Discrepancy - Same Riser Tags shown in different  stack

Solution – RFI sent to client for confirming the right pipe size

Challenge – Plan Mismatch - Vent shown in plan drawing but enlarged plan showed difference.

Solution – Our BIM engineers followed enlarged plan and riser diagram and asked confirmation from the client.

Challenge: Constructability / Aesthetic Issues - Connection for Water Heater  & Washing Machine shown wrongly in the Contract Document.

Solution – Recommended design changes of the Water Heater and requested client to review and suggest on the same.

BIM Start Date: March, 2022

BIM End Date: July, 2022

Project Area: 150,300 sq ft

Average Team Size: 5 Engineers

BIMPACT’S Value Addition to the Mixed Use Project:

Building Information Modeling technology is implemented to:
  • Coordinate location of safety devices  throughout the building
  • Streamline inter-trade coordination
  • Reduce rework
  • Enhance construction safety, by eliminating hazards
The contractor used BIM services for coordination of site logistics, controlling construction areas, traffic patterns and material handling schemes like crane placement.

Building Information Modeling also helped to increase production quality with the help of the 3D model for checking field conditions and Installations. Every subcontractor ensured that the installation takes place as per coordinated construction model.

Collaboration through Revit software helped project stakeholders to work in an uninhibited way.

Our MEP modelers rerouted layout for matching updated sleeve position.
