3D BIM Modeling Penetrating Construction Market across the Globe

Top industry sectors are taking advantage of 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) across the globe. Whether it's an architect, structural engineer, (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing)MEP design firm, general contractor, MEP contractors, concrete contractors, fire-protection contractors, drywall contractors or home builders, BIM services are helping all AEC professionals to get complete control of their construction projects. Engineers working with 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, 7D and 8D BIM are facilitating project coordination, collaboration, asset management, risk mitigation, and cost estimation.

As per 2016 report, 82% of professionals across the world stated that BIM is the future of project information out of 50% in the UK, 71% in Canada, 81% in Denmark, 30% in the Czech Republic and 49% in Japan. The BIM Adoption Forecast by 2021 is expected to be 95% in the UK, 85% in Canada, 93% in Denmark, 90% in the Czech Republic and 88% in Japan.

  • Building Information Modelling in United Kingdom

In the United Kingdom, the Government has made it mandatory to implement Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 for use on all public sector construction works (2016). The Government required fully collaborative 3D BIM with all information about the project, asset information, documentation & electronic data. COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange) process is followed for BIM Implementation in the UK, enabling facilities management and streamlining the process for waste elimination and profit enhancement.

  • Building Information Modelling in United States of America

In the USA, Level of Detailing (LOD)100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 are used for detailed 3D Building Information Modelling. Various design options are simulated by BIM companies in the USA for choosing an efficient solution. Major software applications like AutoCAD, Revit, Fabrication, Navisworks, Bentley, Solidworks, Tekla, etc. are used for an accurate design & construction solution.

  • Building Information Modelling in United Arab Emirates

UAE is also the home to some of the innovative building projects in the world. As per the 2017 Smart Market Report of Dodge Data Analytics, BIM users reported receiving several internal business benefits from BIM at a high level. 63% said BIM helped to market new business to new clients, 59% stated that BIM helped in overall enhancement of organization’s image as an industry leader, 58% opined BIM to offer new services, 46% accounted that BIM helped to maintain repeat business with past clients and 44% confirmed that they prefer BIM due to increased profits.

Successful Cases of 3D BIM Modelling in UK, USA & UAE

  • Cases of BIM Implementation in the UK

Revit & 3DS Max software applications are used for a residential building creation in Bath, United Kingdom. 3D BIM Modelling helped to identify the constructability issues during the tender stage of this project.  BIM Engineers have reviewed critical areas in 3D and evaluated space constraints evaluated successfully. The models are produced with cutaways & complex geometry. 4D BIM animations also helped to identify the flaw in the construction program. 3DS Max delivered extra realism & special animation effects with animated walk-through, expanding the visual context of the design concept for effective validation & communication.

Several other buildings are constructed in UK seeking the help of BIM like Queens Quay, Television Centre in White City, St George's Church in Bristol, Moberly Sports Center in London, UK, Slussen Lock, Stockholm Swedish reconstruction, 22 Bishopsgate, City of London, 39 Victoria Street, London, Orchard Village, Forth Bridge and more.

  • Cases of BIM Adoption in USA

BIM helped to create a 3D Model of acoustically designed UMBC Performing Arts & Human Facility in Baltimore, US. 3D BIM Modelling came handy while finalizing the project on time, identifying constructability issues for Architectural, Structural, Plumbing, HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing & Electrical Trades. Various design disciplines are collaborated flawlessly as an information platform to enhance work efficacy, verify aesthetic looks & improve building performance. Revit, Navisworks & AutoCAD facilitated the completion of 3D BIM Models successfully with effective project coordination, avoiding the cost of rework from the existence of clashes. BIM helped to reduce time wasted, helping the project move towards completion.

Some other 3D BIM Modelling Projects in USA include New Orleans International Airport, Modera Davis Mixed-Use Construction, Rosslyn Central Place in Arlington County, Virginia, Oak Park Station Residential Project, Good Samaritan Hospital, Stoneham Central Middle School, Multi-family Project in Los Angeles, University Of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, Los Angeles, CA – Southwest School of Behavioral & Social Sciences and many more.

  • Cases of BIM Enabled Construction in the UAE

Infrastructure marvel is created with BIM for Dubai International Airport in the Middle East. 3D BIM Modelling is implemented for Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world. Some software applications used in the project include AutoCAD MEP fabrication, Navisworks & PDF viewer for creating quick and error-free shop drawings & 3D model creation. Building Information Modeling also ensured ease of access for maintenance provisions & facility management.

Other BIM projects in UAE include Midfield Terminal Building, Al Bahr Towers, Msheireb Downtown Construction, Children Hospital in Jeddah, Jeddah Tower, Muscat & Salalah International Airport and more.
