How does Zigurat's International Collaborative Methodology work?

Participants collaborate with other professionals from more than 35 countries.

Published: 15/09/2017

Throughout the  Global BIM Management Certification program you will work on several international collaborative projects with the other participants of the program.

There are many types of projects, so you may find yourself working on a single-family residence, a skyscraper, an office building, or a multi-use development, among many other interesting options.

We place each participant into collaborative project groups. You will usually be in a minimum of two groups with 5-6 people in each group. We put an emphasis on making these groups as multidisciplinary as possible. What this means is that you won’t be placed in a group full of architects, but rather a group with an architect, an MEP engineer, a building product manufacturer, a facility manager, etc. This ensures that you will gain experience working with professionals from many different backgrounds and sectors of the industry.

All projects are completed on our project management platform. This platform gives you a space to organize your team, set tasks and deadlines, and communicate between groups. The project management platform also acts as a social platform where you can see all of the other participants in the program. This provides some interesting opportunities for networking and collaboration. For example, if you’re working on a project and you need help with the structure, you can go through the list of participants, find someone who is a structural expert, and ask for their assistance. In this way, you get to know your colleagues in a very organic way and have a chance to develop lasting relationships. Some of our past participants have found that they worked so well together that they even went on to form their own international BIM consultancies!

Each project will have a coordinator who will need to assign BIM roles and tasks. As the coordinator, you will need to effectively manage your team and ensure that all members of the team are working together in order to successfully complete these projects. Your role will change throughout each project, so you will gain experience working from each individual role within a BIM project. This will make you a more effective BIM manager as you will gain firsthand experience from each individual role, and know exactly what is expected from each of those roles within a real BIM project.

There are multiple projects across the seven modules, covering topics such as software use and interoperability, BIM management, BIM implementation, sustainable building management, facility management & operations, and digital fabrication.

The last edition of the program saw enrollment from participants from more than 35 countries, placed into 25 collaborative teams. As you can imagine, this provides our participants with some very interesting opportunities for networking and collaboration. At Zigurat, we always emphasize the importance of cooperation and collaboration, as this is one of the main advantages of adopting BIM, resulting in tangible savings of cost and time.
